Evan’s NYC Summer Lifestyle Picks
With the abundance of cultural activities and fun that NYC has to offer, I wanted to share some of my top picks for all to enjoy the summer in style!

Arguably, America’s greatest cultural contribution to the world has been jazz music. It may be argued with equal force that one of the most important shrines in the history of jazz is Minton’s Playhouse in Harlem. Minton’s was the place where Bebop was born; the place, really, where the foundations of modern jazz were established. Founded in 1938 by the saxophonist Henry Minton (from whom the establishment took its name), over the next decade Minton’s Playhouse became the setting for a revolution in jazz. In recognition of its significance in American history and culture, Minton’s Playhouse has been listed on both the National and the New York State Register of Historic Places. Enjoy live music every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night, or pop in for a set over Sunday brunch! 206 West 118th Street, New York, NY 10026

La Sirena at the Maritime Hotel
Located on the plaza level patio of Chelsea’s storied Maritime Hotel, La Sirena is Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich’s first new restaurant in New York in nearly a decade. The space is characterized by custom ’60s-inspired curvilinear pavers throughout and walls clad in Caesarstone quartz. A 38-foot marble bar bisects the grand patio and connects the more intimate north and south dining rooms. Housemade pastas include panzotti La Sirena: leek and mascarpone stuffed pasta with spinach, Perigord and walnuts; duck mezzaluna with a quick marinara sauce; and a take on linguini and clams. You can also do a tasting of any two pasta options. 88 Ninth Avenue, New York City, NY 10011

Montauk, Long Island
Every so often it’s nice to get away from the city for a couple of days. Some beach destinations are ideal for doing nothing but enjoying the sand and sea, and Montauk, at the Eastern tip of Long Island, is certainly capable of providing such a relaxing respite. But this lively hamlet (with its historic lighthouse) located at land's end is also ideal for weekend travelers looking to kick things up a notch with some surfing, golfing, hiking, and other activities—followed by some serious eating. Make sure to visit the cabanas at The Crow’s Nest for a late afternoon cocktail, and then walk up the hill to catch the sunset and enjoy dinner in the most serene and beautiful setting imaginable. 4 Old West Lake Drive, Montauk, NY 11954

Orlebar Brown
Based in London, Orlebar Brown (OB) was created as a more tailored approach to men’s beach and swim shorts. Not so much a swim short but a ‘short you can swim in,’ OB offers something you can wear on the beach or by the pool, but is smart enough to wear to grab a drink or lunch. Having initially focused on tailored shorts, the range evolved into a full resort collection influenced by 1960’s poolside utopia. The OB world draws inspiration from Slim Aarons’ iconic pictures of Riviera and Palm Beach life during the decade. Not just a smarter look, but a reminder of the sophistication that once went with travel and holidays.

Summer Olympics, Rio de Janeiro
Like many of you, I’m a huge fan of the Olympics, and we’re just a few weeks away! I can’t wait to watch the fierce competition among the best athletes in the world as they go for gold at the Games of the XXXI Olympiad. I want to wish all of my friends competing and coaching the best of luck - you’ve worked tirelessly to make this dream come true, now savor every moment!
